Remembering Gary

Just yesterday, I started thinking about a long-term friend that I had not heard from recently.  Sadly, this is what I found when Googling his name:

"Gary Robert Shinsky, 59, passed away Friday, April 5, 2019, at his home in Springfield, Missouri. Gary was born Sunday, November 8, 1959, in New London, Ohio, to Lloyd A. and Judith K. (Rosenberger) Shinsky. Gary graduated from Central High School in Springfield. He enjoyed playing golf and studying history.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Dolores (Marcheleta) Shinsky, and his father, Lloyd Shinsky. Gary is survived by his mother, Judith Shinsky of Springfield; a brother, Jeff (Kim) Shinsky of Highlandville; two sisters, Melissa (Freddie) Griggs of Springfield and Rochelle (Tom) Davis of Nixa; nieces and nephews, Jessica Waddell, Joshua Shinsky, Michael Griggs, Caleb Davis, and Ryan Davis.

He will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

No formal services are planned at this time.

Gary’s care has been entrusted to Walnut Lawn Funeral Home, Ltd. DeGraffenreid-Wood Crematory.

He visited me once near my home in the 1990's, and I saw him at his apartment in Springfield several times.  I was usually the one getting spanked, but I did spank him at times.  Here are some pictures from our various meetings.  (I don't think we ever did a video.)

Update on 24 Feb., 2020:

Just learned of the death of another Gary, a spanker from Branson, MO.  He was also a friend of Gary S., above.  And I visited him a few times for spankings.  A kind man, except maybe when he had a paddle in hand....

He was born on February 19, 1946 in Canton, Ohio, the son of Robert Arthur Wackerly and Ruby Belle Bradley Wackerly. He was a retired math teacher and owner of the Branson Show Awards. He had been a resident of the area for the past 16 years.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to the Gary Wackerly Branson Show Awards Scholarship Fund administered by the Branson Regional Arts Council, an associate member of the League of Branson Theatre Owners & Show Producers (Branson Show League). Gary’s long time support of the Arts, and in particular of Branson Shows & Theatres, has been greatly appreciated by our entertainers and community members. It is hoped that his love of Theatre and Music will be communicated to future professionals in the Performing Arts world. The family, along with the Arts Council and the Show League, have designated that the scholarship be awarded to a Theatre, Music, and/or a Math Student from a High School in the Branson Tri-Lakes Area. The Branson Regional Arts Council and Michael Wackerly (son of Gary Wackerly) will present recipients their scholarship on radio and TV show “Branson Country USA”. Donations should be made out to the Branson Regional Arts Council and designate proceeds to go to the Gary Wackerly Branson Show Awards Scholarship Fund. Checks may be mailed to Branson Regional Arts Council, PO Box 2004 Branson MO 65615.
